Christmas tree is gone, cupboards full of chocolate are empty and that feeling going back to science after a holiday sets in. I can imagine that majority of us really struggled to get out of the bed and start a day after lovely break, I certainly did! Anyway, I thought I would share a few tips and tricks I use when holiday blues kick in and the pile of work is looking at me.
Before you go away always write down ‘To do’ list – if I am going on holiday to enjoy sunshine or to eat my grandmothers absolutely delicious apple cake I always write down what I have to do once I am back to work. I include everything – emails to answers, reagents to order, lab work to do and it helps me a lot to see it written once I am back. Start with your morning routine – I always think it is good to stick to some sort of routine during work days and for me is a get up – water with lemon – workout. As much as I hate that morning alarm sound I set it up and start with my casual routine once I am back from holiday and it does help me to get back on track. Although, it is freezing and cold right now it is very difficult, but I am trying my best!
Write down your motivation – Whenever I am back to work I do feel those holiday blues and that feeling ‘uchhh why I have to do this’ well the best thing is to write down WHY you actually doing what you doing. Maybe you need this extra experiment to get more statistics, or maybe you finshing super awesome publication or maybe you have upcoming conference where you have to give a talk. Whatever it is – write (I personally enjoy writing down everything what comes into my head)
Overall, I do think after holiday we need another holiday (I wish!). Anyway, I enjoy starting slowly, catching up with my collagoues over a cup of coffee, organising few days work plan according to my ‘to do list’ and of course already checking Skyscanner and planning my next holiday.
Do you have any tips how to be productive at work after holiday? Please let me know!
Have a wonderful day xx
