I never been ashamed to admit that my hair styling skills are not the greatest. However, thanks to wonderful online tutorials and some great hair salons I am slowly getting into styling my hair. One brand that I really love and I do think does great hair styling products and tools is ghd.
I used ghd styling products for the first time over a year ago. Before that I did know about ghd and tried their curling wands, but had no experience with styling products. However, since trying ghd curl hold and final fix spray I am keeping ghd as one of the best hair friend.
First one is ghd curl hold spray. Before curling, I divide my hair into sections and spray curl hold spray. Next, I brush my hair to make sure the product is distributed well on my hair. Afterwords I use curling wand for approx. 30 seconds on each hair section.
The most important ingredient that holds new hair structure is Sodium Laneth-40 maleate/styrene sulfonate copolymer. This ingredient forms a film around the hair and when we apply heat it holds the new structure, basically works like glue. Because of the film formation it also provides protection to our hair against heat damage.
Next, we have my favourite panthenol, which adds moisture and thickness to the hair. Peg12-dimethicone works as hair conditioning giving that smooth feeling. It is a silicone, but because it is Peg12 it does dissolve in water well and does not cause buildup.
Once I have my curls , I gently brush through with my fingers and apply ghd final fix spray. Personally, I have no clue how much hair spray I need for my hair but I try to apply enough to hold my hair.
Octylacrylamide/Acrylates/Butylaminoethyl methacrylate copolymer and Polyurethane-14 (and) AMP-acryaltes copolymer (typing these two is a challenge!) are the ones that hold hair in new shape. Because of these ingredients hair feels soft and not gluey. In addition, the formula of these ingredients is humidity resistance but is very well washed away with shampoo.
And finally ghd final shine spray. I have to be honest with you I only used this one twice. The instructions say to apply 30cm distance from the hair. Make sure you take follow this because otherwise your hair will look oily/wet.
It is mainly composed of Cyclopentasiloxane and Cyclohexasiloxane that are silicones. Both of them add shine and slightly wet hair look, which reflects light well and hair looks super smooth.
In case you have dry hair this could work really well for you when you style your hair. For me it does not give big effect and once I sprayed so much and so close that I actually thought I need to wash my hair again. Don’t do this mistake.
Who should use ghd styling products? I think everyone who likes to style hair, from straight to curly, and vice versa. Specifically, I would suggest the products to someone who is worried about product buildup. Also, these products are great for dyed hair and also very dry hair.
For me easy, soft waves are my favourite. I like when my hair feels soft, smooth and shiny and I really dislike when I can feel styling product buildup and my hair looks stiff. Therefore, ghd styling products are my favourite. Right now I am in Kyoto, Japan for the World Hair Congress and I have spend all day exploring Kyoto. My lose curls lasted all day and hair felt unbelievably gentle, light and live. If you like simple yet efficient products, ghd is for you.
What are your favourite hair styling products? Have you tried ghd before? Please let me know!
