Philip Kingsley itchy scalp shampoo – review

I am currently back home in Lithuania, enjoying the peace and quiet after few hectic weeks. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved having family around and being busy every day. Yet, there is a certain charm sitting down with a cup of coffee, laptop and no one around.

However, it is really cold in Lithuania and I noticed my scalp is not very happy. In my last post, I shared my New Year resolutions and that I want to focus on maintaining healthy scalp this year.  Therefore, I thought I have to discuss Philip Kingsley Flaky Scalp Shampoo as it has been my go-to product.

I already wrote a blog post why dandruff appears and what ingredients to look for in a shampoo. However, the key ingredient in Philip Kingsley shampoo is Piroctone Olamine, which is very effective against dandruff formation (anti-fungal), especially for those who suffer from Seborrheic Dermatitis. In addition, it does not make hair dry and there is actually some evidence in comparison to zinc pyriothine that piroctone olamine is more conditioning for hair.

Next ingredient, Lauryl Betaine is a cleansing agent, which is more gentle on the scalp than common sulfates found in the shampoo.

Who would I recommend Philip Kingsley Shampoo? For someone, who has very dry, sensitive and itchy scalp. However, if you also have dandruff but your hair tends to get oily, this might work well for you. The common anti-dandruff ingredient zinc pyriothine is great, yet it has been associated with making hair more oily. Therefore, using Philip Kingsley shampoo, might not only reduce flaky scalp but also control sebum production.

Philip Kingsley Itchy Scalp Products

My personal experience with Philip Kingsley Shampoo? I like it, as it does remove dandruff and it is not irritating to my scalp. Also, several times I only used shampoo and no conditioner, I was pleasantly surprised how soft my hair felt. The downside is the price, as it is not the cheapest product. However, I think it is a great investment for those cold days when scalp pH and dandruff get out of the control and you need a good fix.

Have you ever used Philip Kingsley Itchy Scalp Shampoo? Tempted to try? Let me know!

I’ve never heard of this product before, but it sounds worth trying. I have seborrheic dermatitis which isn’t too fun, so maybe I’ll add this into my hair care rotation and see how I get on.
